What is the Ski Area Environmental Reportcard?
Every November for the last nine years Colorado Wild along with a coalition of other conservation groups has released a report card to identify environmental practices among ski areas across the western US.  The goal of the report card is to inform potential ski area visitors of the environmental record of their favorite ski area.

The process of developing the report card involves sending out a survey to the ski areas in the early summer. The survey allows the ski areas to identify the things they do, and do not do, to protect the Forest Service land that they are leasing from the USFS.

To compliment the information we acquire through the surveys, in mid-summer we send out Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to the Forest Service to gather the rest of the pertinent information needed to complete the report card. Once we have gathered all the information we use an extensive rubric to come up with a grade.

The report card is released to the media and posted on the Ski Area Citizens Alliance website in November of each year.
